Applied Maths

Applied Maths is the study of problem-solving skills.  The laws of physics are applied to relevant problems and the student must design mathematical equations to suit the problem.  A variety of mathematical techniques are then used to solve these equations.  The subject may be studied at higher and ordinary level.  The Leaving Certificate examination consists of one paper with 6 questions to do.  Pupils taking this subject must be prepared to do classes after school one day a week.  Pupils must be doing higher level Maths to do higher level Applied Maths.  Pupils must have studied higher level Junior Certificate Maths to take this subject at senior level.  Pupils do not have to be studying physics to do Applied Maths but these two subjects complement each other very well.
