February 2025

Holy Family secondary school is delighted to have been selected for a European Erasmus + Accreditation 2025 to 2027. This means that the school will be able to apply for future schools’ partnership programmes with other countries in the EU.  Accreditation shows that HFSS can organize high-quality mobility activities and plans to organise them regularly.

Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. The 2021-2027 programme places a strong focus on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions, and promoting young people’s participation in democratic life. It supports priorities and activities set out in the European Education Area, Digital Education Plan and the European Skills Agenda. This aligns strongly with the HFSS School Plan ‘By 2026’ and many of the school’s teaching and learning aims.

Ms. Lloyd will be leading a school team to work on our Erasmus Plan under the Erasmus + Accreditation 2025-2027.

My Canine Companion

4th November 2024

We are delighted to share with you all that we will be welcoming a very special new member to the school team this November. HFSS, in collaboration with My Canine Companion (MCC), will welcome a school therapy puppy to our school community this month. MCC developed Ireland’s first school therapy dog programme.

Originally piloted in Munster in 2020, the organisation now has 60 school dogs working nationwide, supporting students and staff throughout their school day. HFSS will be one of four secondary schools in County Kildare to be among the first schools in Leinster to be a part of this programme. Research has shown the benefits of therapy dogs in education settings.

MCC schools have reported a significant improvement in areas of wellbeing, mental health, anxiety, absenteeism, staff and student morale since the introduction of an MCC school therapy dog. This will be a working dog and will always be with a trained handler.
